Golden Pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi)
The Golden Pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi) hails from South America, boasting a serene demeanour and captivating beauty. Sporting elongated bodies akin to pencils, they exhibit a striking silver-green hue.
In captivity, these fish thrive in groups of six or more within a planted aquarium of at least 20 gallons. They favour soft, slightly acidic water, and feel at home amidst driftwood, rocks, and vegetation reminiscent of their natural habitat.
Their peaceful nature makes them excellent companions for other tranquil species like tetras, rasboras, and small catfish. Furthermore, they serve as ideal dither fish for Apistogramma spp. and other dwarf cichlids, occupying the middle-to-upper tank regions without posing a threat to fry.
Since these are social fish, we recommend keeping a minimum 6 together.
