Chopstick Snails (Stenomelania Torulosa)
Chopstick Snails are plant safe scavenging snails with a spike-shaped shell. They make a wonderful addition to the planted aquarium, and grow to an average size of 1.5 - 2 inches (3.8 - 5.1 centimeters).
Chopstick snails spend their day scavenging the aquarium, and sifting through the substrate. Aerating the substrate is important to soil and sand aquariums, because it slowly releases the pockets of gas that naturally build up in the substrate. They are stunning snails that are much like Trumpet snails, but larger. They only start breeding at their large size (2''), and burrow most of the time, so you may not see them after you put them into your tank.
A substrate containing soil or soil and sand is ideal for the Chopstick snail, and the substrate should be deep enough for it to be able to sift and scavenge for algae, decaying plant matter, biofilm, and waste. They truly are ultimate cleaner snails.
