Clown Killifish (Epiplatys Annulatus)
The Clown Killifish (Epiplatys annulatus) is a vibrant and peaceful species, ideal for nano or planted aquariums due to its small size. Originating from Western Africa's stagnant swamps and slow-moving streams, it thrives in minimal water flow environments. Occupying the top water level, it's prone to jumping, necessitating a covered aquarium or lowered water level to prevent escape.
This species coexists well with plants and appreciates cover, especially from floating plants. Compatibility with other peaceful species and invertebrates is possible, provided they don't compete for food or prey on Clown Killifish fry. While typically kept in pairs, they exhibit better coloration and thrive in groups.
Feeding habits of the Clown Killifish are somewhat limited compared to other aquarium fish. Being micropredators, they prefer feeding at the water's surface and may ignore dry foods. Frozen foods like Tubifex, Daphnia, and Artemia are usually accepted, while chopped bloodworms are suitable. Live foods are the preferred diet, enhancing their health and vitality.
Also know as: Banded Killifish, Annulatus Killifish, and Rocket killifish.
