Trumpet Snail (Melanoides maculata)
The Black Trumpet Snail (Melanoides maculata) are relatively small, livebearing snails that reproduce at a quick rate if given access to a constant or regular food supply. Natural aquariums provide plenty of food for trumpet snails, being detritivores they're always at the ready to consume any food left behind or snubbed by your fish.
Trumpet snails do burrow and spend most of their time below the substrate, unless there is food present for them to eat. Nocturnal by nature, they come out after dark and seek out any remnants they can digest and normally are only seen in the day if you put food in the aquarium.
