Tiger Striped Frogbit (Limnobium laevigatum)
Tiger Striped Frogbit is a rare variant of frogbit which has striped marking on the leaves of the plants.
It is a fantastic floating aquarium plant with lush long roots when kept in their ideal environment they are easy to grow and will thrive. It can grow very large (up to 3-4” / 7.5-10cm) and is fantastic for large aquariums and even ponds (be cautious though it is invasive so indoor ponds only are recommended).
This floater is known to have a few tricks to keeping it looking it’s best though. Firstly, do not let the tops get wet, or the plant will rot. It’s best kept in an open top or well ventilated tank. Water should be kept fresh but not have a lot of surface agitation (to keep the tops dry) but it is susceptible to rot if the water is very stagnant with humid unventilated air. If you have a large snail population it is susceptible to being snacked on by snails. Keep this floater healthy with regularly fertilizing and thinning it out so it doesn’t cover the entire surface excess plants should be removed. If allowed to cover the surface it will choke out any plants growing below and can cause oxygen depletion.
